A. Is this the 2026 eclipse or the 2027 eclipse?
This is the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027, visible from southern Spain.
Spain sees two total eclipses in consecutive years and they are frequently confused. The 2026 eclipse crossed northern Spain in the evening, close to sunset, with totality lasting only one to two minutes. The 2027 eclipse crosses Andalusia in the morning, with the Sun high in the sky and totality lasting well over four minutes near the centre line. It is the longest total solar eclipse visible from land in over three decades.
1. What are the exact dates of the event?
The Spain Solar Eclipse 2027 expedition runs from July 27 to August 3, 2027, centered around the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027. The full itinerary includes photography workshops, guided visits to Granada, Córdoba, Seville and Ronda, a wildlife outing in the Strait of Gibraltar, and a complete technical preparation programme for eclipse day.
2. Where will the event primarily take place?
The expedition travels across Andalusia, in southern Spain, with overnight stays in Granada, Córdoba, Seville and Algeciras. Our observation point for the eclipse sits on the southern coast of Cádiz, near Tarifa, close to the centre line of the path of totality and looking out over the Strait of Gibraltar towards Africa.
The eclipse reaches its maximum at 10:47 local time on August 2, with the Sun 38° above the horizon, and totality lasting approximately 4 minutes and 27 seconds from our viewpoint.
3. Two of us will go together on the trip, are there double rooms available?
Yes, just let us know in advance and we will give you a discount of 250 euros each in the final price.
4. What photography equipment is recommended to bring?
To capture the eclipse and surrounding landscapes effectively, we recommend:
- A DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual settings.
- A telephoto lens (minimum 200mm, ideally 400mm or more for close-ups of the Sun).
- A sturdy tripod to ensure stability during long exposures.
- Solar filters to protect your camera when photographing the Sun outside of totality.
- Wide-angle lenses (10-35mm) for capturing the eclipse alongside the coastline and the Strait.
- Remote shutter release or intervalometer to minimize vibrations.
- Extra batteries and memory cards for extensive shooting sessions.
- A star tracker mount (optional) for advanced long-exposure photography of the solar corona.
If you are unsure about any of this, contact us before booking. We review every participant’s gear individually during the Eclipse Academy on the day before totality, and we will tell you in advance what is worth bringing and what is not.
5. Is prior experience in eclipse photography required?
No prior experience is necessary. Our team, led by expert astrophotographers, provides guidance throughout the expedition, with hands-on training before and during the eclipse. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, you will have the chance to enhance your skills.
The day before the eclipse we run a full Eclipse Academy: individual setup of every camera and telescope, configuration of your shooting sequence, a complete rehearsal of the eclipse session, and individual validation of each participant’s equipment. Nobody arrives at totality guessing.
6. Are transportation and accommodation included?
Yes, the expedition package includes:
- Reception at Málaga airport and private van transfers throughout the entire tour.
- Seven nights of hotel accommodation in Granada, Córdoba, Seville and Algeciras.
- All meals, from the welcome dinner on July 27 to breakfast on the departure day.
- Transfer back to Málaga airport at the end of the tour.
7. Are there any discounts for group bookings?

8. How does payment work?
Booking is in two stages. You pay a reservation fee of €1,000 online through our secure Stripe checkout to confirm your place. The remaining balance of €3,799 is due on arrival.
Zero Expeditions, S.L. is a licensed travel agency (CICMA 4861, Comunidad de Madrid), so your booking is covered by Spanish travel agency regulations.
9. Could you help me with booking my flight tickets?
Although flights are not included in the package price, we can assist you in managing your reservation. The tour begins and ends at Málaga airport (AGP), which has direct connections with most major European hubs and seasonal routes from North America. 10. What happens if the weather is unfavorable?
Early August in southern Andalusia has one of the highest probabilities of clear skies in all of Europe, which is a large part of why we chose this location.
Beyond that, the path of totality crosses almost the entire province of Cádiz and part of Málaga, so we have alternative locations identified along the coast and inland. Our team monitors weather conditions closely in the days before the eclipse and will make last-minute adjustments if needed. However, as with any natural event, complete visibility cannot be guaranteed.
11. Will training workshops be offered during the event?
Yes. The expedition includes multiple workshops:
- Pre-eclipse photography training, including practice sessions with telescopes and telephoto lenses.
- The Eclipse Academy, a full technical run-through the day before totality with individual gear setup and a complete rehearsal.
- Landscape, architecture and night photography sessions in Granada, Córdoba, Seville and Ronda.
- Wildlife photography sessions in the Strait of Gibraltar, covering raptor migration and cetaceans.
- Post-processing and editing tutorials after the eclipse to refine your final shots.
12. What is the maximum number of participants?
The expedition is designed to be exclusive and intimate, with participation strictly limited to 20 people. This ensures personalized attention from our team at every stage, and one-to-one support during the eclipse itself.
13. Is it possible to cancel the reservation?
- Full or partial refunds may be available if cancelled 2 months before the event, minus 900 € in management costs.
- Some bookings may be non-refundable if cancelled too close to the event date.

14. Can I transfer my reservation to someone else if I can't attend?
Yes, you can transfer your reservation to another person without any issue. However, please note that changing the details on airline tickets is the responsibility of the client. To complete the transfer, simply send us the new attendee’s details at info@spainsolareclipse2027.com.
15. What wildlife can be photographed in the Strait of Gibraltar?
The Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park is one of the richest wildlife corridors in Europe, and early August is an exceptional time to be there:
- Raptor migration. The Strait is the main crossing point between Europe and Africa. Late July and August bring black kites, honey buzzards, short-toed and booted eagles, Egyptian vultures and white storks funnelling south across the water.
- Cetaceans. Common, striped and bottlenose dolphins, long-finned pilot whales and sperm whales are regularly seen in the Strait during the summer months.
- Orcas. A small population hunts bluefin tuna in the Strait through July and August, one of the few places in the world where this behaviour can be observed.
- Seabirds, including Cory’s and Balearic shearwaters and Audouin’s gulls.
Sightings depend on sea and weather conditions and can never be guaranteed, but the boat trip is timed to give the best possible chance.
